You may wish to preserve your fertility for a number of reasons:
• You may be about to undergo treatment that may affect your future fertility. Chemotherapy or radiotherapy may cause damage to sperm or eggs and cause future fertility problems. Freezing sperm, eggs or embryos prior to cancer treatment can give people a real chance of preserving their chances of having children.
• Being at risk of injury or death e.g. members of the Armed Forces who are being deployed to a war zone
• Social reasons such as establishing a career, not having a long-term partner or financial instability lead to an individual choosing to delay parenthood until they are ready to start a family.
